Healing and Recovery Starts with Community Service: NAHREP-AZ Helps School Hit Hard by the Foreclosure Crisis

PHOENIX, Dec. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The mission of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals, Arizona Chapter (NAHREP-AZ) is to promote sustainable homeownership among minority and under-represented consumers.  The road towards this mission takes many paths, including education combined with community outreach.  One of the beneficiaries of NAHREP-AZ's community outreach this month is Trevor G. Browne High School.

Trevor G. Browne High School has a high minority student population and the surrounding community is one of the hardest hit areas in terms of foreclosed homes.  While recovery is just beginning, the schools are still suffering from decreased tax income due to unpaid property taxes and tax revenue based on low property values.  These taxes would normally fund school programs and facility upkeep.

With funds raised from the 1st Annual American Dream Run in October and the Charity Latin Dance Competition in December, NAHREP-AZ was able to raise $4,000 for the school in addition to purchasing 30 brand new running shoes for the track team and seed for the athletic fieldsFunds will be awarded at Trevor Browne High School in a ceremony on Wednesday, December 21st, 2011 at 11:30 am.

"This is just the beginning.  Most of these kids have never run in a pair of new shoes and have never played on a groomed ball field.  We have partnered with Trevor Browne and in 2012 will partner with a second high school.  The leadership we have found at this school is amazing! They have embraced us and we them. We can make a long lasting difference here."
Gail Buck, President, NAHREP-AZ
